Sept 23, 2012: Reunion has 222 attendees

WILSON, N.C. -- The 111th Stancil Reunion, for descendants of John Thomas and Delaney Sasser Stancil, was held on Sept. 23, 2012, at the Moose Club in Wilson, NC. The reunion is held annually on the fourth Sunday of September.

John Thomas Stancil and Delaney Catherine Sasser were married in Johnston County on July 15, 1860. They hosted the first Stancil Reunion in 1902. It was attended by their 11 living children, their families and several friends. Children attending were Walter Henry, Samuel, Josiah, Tempy Ann, John Archer, Arnettie, Alvin Rosco, Harvey Arthur, George Ira, Catherine and Thomas ‘Tommy’ Ruffin. Two did not have any living descendants, Catherine and Tommy. The welcome was given by Renn Stancil Hinton of the George Branch. Delbridge Narron of the Henry Branch gave the annual Treasurer’s report. Following the blessing by Tommy Stancil of the George Branch, members enjoyed a covered dish meal.

Thelma Stancil Pipkin, 91, born Nov. 20, 1920, of the Samuel Branch. Youngest member was Ethan Thomas Gunst, 10 ˝ months, born Nov. 7, 2011, of the George Branch. Ethan is the son of Ross and Elizabeth Stancil Gunst and grandson of Marty and Thomas ‘Tommy’ Emmette Stancil, III.
