He was the son of Cleveland Grover Eason Sr. and Myrtle Stancil Eason, and a sibling to Jean Eason LaVie, Frank Eason, JoAnn Eason Alexander, Lelon Woodrow "Woody" Eason Sr., and Margaret Carol Eason Cole.

Clevie married Judy Carolyn Nichols on June 12, 1971, at the Baptist Church on Tarboro Street in Wilson, North Carolina. Carolyn, born on May 21, 1953, was the daughter of Benjamin Ralph Nichols and Eva Mae Baker. Together, they had two children: Christy Lynne Eason, born in 1971, and Benjamin John Eason, born in 1974. Their marriage concluded with a divorce on September 7, 1978.

Seeking a new start, Clevie moved to California, where he found love again with Bonnie Hope Mattingly.

Bonnie, born on September 27, 1947, was the daughter of John and Virginia Mattingly. Clevie and Bonnie were married in October 1980. They had two sons: Jesrah "Jesse" Orran, born in 1981, and James "Jimmy" Harold, born in 1982.
