James Clarence Hill was born March 23, 1900.

He married Mary Ella Renfrow Aug. 29, 1920, and they had four children, all girls.

Clarence was shot and killed Dec. 17, 1971, when his Kenly grocery store was robbed. Two Kenly teens admitted to robbing and killing Clarence.

He is buried in the Fred Hill Cemetery in Kenly, North Carolina.

His wife, Ella, who was born Oct. 1, 1902, died Jan. 16, 1991, in Wilson. She is also buried in the Fred Hill Cemetery.
